Electrical safety
Solar photovoltaic systems produce hazardous DC voltages whenever light falls on the modules. This voltage cannot be switched off at the panels. DC arcs can be sustained and cause severe burns and fires. Batteries can deliver very high fault currents. Inverters and distribution boards carry dangerous AC and DC voltages, and internal components can hold charge after shutdown.
Installation, testing, isolation and repair of solar PV systems must be carried out only by trained, competent and appropriately licensed persons, using suitably rated tools, instruments and personal protective equipment, and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and all applicable laws, regulations, standards and DISCOM requirements.
Nothing on this website should be read as encouraging untrained people to open electrical enclosures, disconnect connectors, work at height or perform electrical tests.
